‘Rice will sell for N9k before December’ - APC Chieftain

A top Chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), in Lagos State, Ganiyu Quadri, has reiterated that his party is doing everything possible to place the agro-business scheme run by the State government in Kebbi State on a high end, so that the cost of rice will drop to a mere N9,000 by December, from the present price of between N18,500 and N20,000.

Quadri, who is the Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area in the state, made this bold declaration while receiving a delegation of Rotary Club of Akowonjo 9110, led by its District-Governor, Patrick Ikheloa, and President, Shola Abidakun, stressing that the APC administration in Lagos swung into agro-business to ensure food security for its people.

“By the end of this year, or first quarter next year, things will change in Lagos. Already, we are into agro-business in Kebbi State. We have massive land on which we planted grains, among which is rice, our people’s staple food. And it is expected that the truckloads of rice will storm Lagos soon."

Powerful earthquake strikes central Italy

At least 38 people died in a powerful earthquake that hit central Italy early on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the Civil Protection Department said.

The earthquake struck towns and villages in the mountainous heart of the country, which was making the rescue operation more difficult, said Immacolata Postiglione.

Mikel Eyes Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Mikel John Obi has hinted that he would want to make another appearance at the Olympic Games in four years when the Japanese city Tokyo plays hosts to the World.

The Chelsea midfielder, one of two senior players in the Nigeria Under-23 squad that won bronze in the men’s football event at the Games in Rio de Janeiro, opened up that he “enjoyed every minute of being in Brazil” and is already relishing the prospect of featuring at the next Olympics despite knowing that he would be 33 by then.

“This experience has given me the hunger to do it again at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. I will be only 33 then and my game will still be at a high level.

“I enjoyed every minute of being in Brazil and I have been talking to the other guys about playing in another Olympics. I’m already looking forward to it and the countdown is on!” Mikel wrote in his column for ‘Evening Standard’ on Monday.

The 29-year-old is also proud of being an Olympic medal winner and took time to relive how the Nigerian squad achieved the feat in the losers’ final against Honduras, reports supersport.com.

The Nigerian captain also intends to show off his Olympic medal when he returns to his club, Chelsea, this week.

“When I woke up in my hotel room on Sunday morning, I opened my eyes to see my Olympic bronze medal lying there beside me. It just hammered home to me what I had achieved with the rest of my Nigeria team-mates the day before. We beat Honduras 3-2 to get the bronze and secure Nigeria’s first Olympics medal in any sport since 2008.

“All of us went into the game knowing this and it put extra pressure on the squad to perform. The team actually played very well for the most part. We controlled the game, I created three goals to put us 3-0 up and it was all very comfortable. But we conceded two late on and all of a sudden it looked like everything was going downhill. They made us sweat a bit and we were relieved to come out victorious,” Mikel stated.

Mikel, however, disclosed that his target before travelling to Brazil “was the gold medal. But to get the bronze is still an amazing achievement.”

The Chelsea man featured in all of Nigeria’s six matches at the Olympic Games, playing an average of 88 minutes per game.

BRAVO!! China Unveils Elevated Train That Drives Over The Top Of Other Cars On The Road

IT LOOKS like a cross between an
oversized train and a transformer.
But this is actually an elevated bus
and China hopes it holds the answer
to its crazy traffic jams.

The Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) would
see passengers ride above the traffic
below with stops placed along the
route in a similar system to the
subway — except apparently
cheaper.

A scale model of the bus was
unveiled just days ago at the 19th
China Beijing International High-
Tech Expo, and it certainly attracted
some attention.

Tired Of Hackers? 5 Tips To Stop Anyone From Hacking Your WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram Accounts

Hackers have increased their rampage
these days and are causing people many
worries. But you can be safe by
following these tips.
One normally starts thinking about
security only when it gets
compromised. But the services you
normally use put in a lot of effort to
keep you and your data secure.
Here’s a quick rundown of the steps
you need to follow to secure your
online presence.
1. Whatsapp
WhatsApp already uses end-to-end
encryption to secure your chats — no
one, not even WhatsApp staff
members can read your chats if
encryption is on (which it is by
default). But a common scenario is
losing your phone. Before you realise
the loss, a thief will have full access
to your WhatsApp account which
may include photosvideos, personal
information and messages. The thief
may also impersonate you to extract
money from your contacts. To
prevent this, lock WhatsApp with a
PIN — you will need third-party apps
to do this.
In case of theft of phone with an
unlocked WhatsApp account, get a
new SIM immediately and use it to
register with WhatsApp on another
device — this will instantly
deactivate WhatsApp and the other
phone.
2. Instagram
You might not want everyone in the
world to see and comment on your
Instagram photos.
A simple way to enable this is by
making your Instagram account
private — this means that only those
who follow you can see your photos
and new followers will require
approval from you. The other
security feature you should activate
is Manual Photo Tagging. Go to the
Instagram profile section and tap on
the Photo of You (last icon below
your bio) — tap on the menu button
on top right and select tagging
options. Here you can enable `Add
Manually’ — this will prevent you
from being tagged in unwanted
photos. You have given third-party
apps access to your Instagram
account. To manage these apps, you
will need to login to Instagram on a
computer and select ‘Edit Profile’. In
the settings page that opens up, you
will see Manage Applications section
where you can revoke access for
unwanted apps.
3. Facebook
Facebook also offers login
verification and alerts but there are
a bunch of additional options — for
instance, you can set trusted contacts
(who can help you get access to your
account if you get locked out) and
you can see which browsers and
apps you’re signed in from.
One very useful feature you’ll find in
the Security Settings page is ‘where
you’ve logged in’. Let’s say you went
to a friends place and logged in to
Facebook on hisher computer, but
forgot to log out when you left.
You can use this option to sign out
from any devices — just click the link
that says ‘End Activity’. If you head
to the help page, Facebook also offers
a handy wizard-style Security
Checkup that will show you old
logins, let you sign out with one click,
review your alerts and give you
password tips.
4. Twitter
Apart from changing your password
often, one of the easiest things you
can do to secure your Twitter
account is to use login verification.
Once you sign in to Twitter on a
computer, from your profile icon
drop down menu, click Settings and
then Security & Privacy Settings.
Before you can use login verification,
you will need to confirm your email
ID.
You can use the iOS or Android app
to complete the process. Once in a
while, also head to Twitter’s settings
page and click Apps — here, you can
check which apps and devices have
access to your account.
Some may be from a couple of years
ago on older devices — you should
revoke access to the ones you no
longer use or recognise.
